The Food Purveyor invests RM2 million to implement protective measures in stores

PETALING JAYA, 18 MARCH 2021: While the country has begun to implement the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, The Food Purveyor (TFP), operator of Village Grocer, Ben’s Independent Grocer (B.I.G), BSC Fine Foods and Pasaraya OTK, continues to take proactive measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Across all its 30 outlets serving Klang Valley and Johor Bahru, TFP has increased the frequency and intensity of its stores’ sanitation procedures via dedicated “Sanitizing Champion” who clean throughout the day the 10 highest customer contact areas.

These areas include shopping trolleys, baskets, and customer count cards; credit card terminal pads; bakery counter including tongs, handles and trays; fresh produce, fish and seafood and meat weighing counters; freezers’ door handles; checkout belts; restaurant menus and customer service counters.

“The roll-out of the vaccination programme has started and it will take a while for everyone to be vaccinated. The health and safety of our customers, employees, and our community remains our top priority. We have established a team in each store that is dedicated to ensuring strict sanitisation measures are implemented regularly at high contact areas.

Furthermore, we have placed disinfection liquid dispensers, temperature detection kiosk, installed plexiglass shield at checkout counters, and social distancing and face mask reminders throughout our stores,” said Geoff King, Chief Executive Officer of The Food Purveyor.

He also echoed Fomca statement on categorising retail workers as frontliners and hope that the food retail workers to be re-categorised as Priority Group 1 of Phase 1.

“It is reasonable to prioritise the food retail workers as they play a significant role in ensuring food and household supplies are available and on the shelves for the public,” said Geoff.

Since March 2020, The Food Purveyor has invested over RM2 million in cleaning and protective equipment across its stores.
